JOB DESCRIPTION: To work closely with teachers, parents, and agencies with support and training to enhance the Head Start program and student achievement.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age. Previous experience in the field of Early Childhood Education. Early Childhood Education/Child Development course work (minimum of 12 credits) completed or higher level degree. Provide evidence of fingerprint clearance, negative TB clearance within the last 12 months, and current immunizations. Ability to relate to the needs of low-income families. Desire to pursue additional training in job-related areas. Must have a reliable, insured vehicle for use on the job and be able to document a good driving record. Ability to interpret local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to the job.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Head Start teacher with team planning and carrying out of classroom activities for children 3, 4, and 5 years old, including those with special needs.
- Participate as a co-teacher in all phases of the school day, including outdoor activities.
- Assist with planning field trips, bringing in resource people, and working with parents.
- Participate in workshops, acquire CDA training within three years of hire, and continue with college courses and other educational growth.
- Assume the leadership of the class in the teacher’s absence.
- Attend required meetings, conduct parent conferences, and go on home visits (two per year).
- Help with meal service and cleanup.
- Help with the maintenance of an attractive and clean preschool environment.
- Help with the assessment of children and the documentation of compliance with Head Start performance standards.
- Develop and maintain a respectful relationship with each family.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
SALARY: Nine-month year, beginning salary Level 25, employee benefits in accordance with Board Policies.
EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy on the evaluation of support personnel.
